What is a “transfer hearing”?
A transfer hearing occurs when the State wants to charge a child as an adult. They must go before a judge and explain why the child should be tried and sentenced as an adult.
As part of his defense of your child, Don Himmelberg will represent your child at the transfer hearing and argue that juveniles should be tried as juveniles; we have successfully defended numerous children at transfer hearings over the past twenty-five years, ensuring that they are tried and sentenced as children, not adults. This can have a profound impact on their futures, as juvenile records are often sealed, invisible to the criminal background checks that are conducted on adults.
